Share and broadcast music in Google Talk

Let the music do the talkingThe other day I was Google Talking with a pal as I listened to the new Pinker Tones album, and started raving about how good it is. I spent about 15 minutes talking about it until I realised there may be a way of sharing the record with him without having to send him all of the files in MP3, so we could listen to it together. There is, and this is it:

  1. Unplug your microphone
  2. Double-click on the speaker icon in the Windows taskbar
  3. Choose ‘Options’ then ‘Properties’
  4. Check the button next to ‘Recording’
  5. Change the setting under Mixing Device too, if applicable
  6. Select ‘Wave Out Mix’ in the Recording Control menu
  7. Click the green phone icon in Google Talk and wait for your friend to answer
  8. Enjoy the music together

OK, sometimes it’s known as ‘Stero Mix’ depending on your sound card. To enable it you need to select ‘Options’ in the Volume Control window. Then highlight the button in the ‘Recording’ option. You should see either ‘Wave Out Mix’ or ‘Stereo Mix’. Tick this one and you’re in business. Hope this helps.
