Download free music on your mobile phone
As the borders between mobile phones and MP3 players continue to blur, more and more people are looking to grab music directly to their handset. Understandably, the mobile companies are lapping it up, with Apple now able to offer iTunes tracks to iPhone users, and Sony Ericsson announcing a major new record label tie-in that will mean even more music can be bought through its PlayNow platform.
Of course, many PC and Mac users spurn legal, pay-for MP3 services in favour of maverick peer-to-peer solutions. Far be it for me to condone illegal activity but there are now a few mobile P2P apps out there that allow you to download free music to your mobile phone. Of course, transfer speeds are much slower than a standard Internet connection, but if you are desperate to get your hands on a track and can’t get to a computer then such a solution is an option. Remember though, it’s an illict option, as Nick discusses in his recent post on the legalaties of file sharing. Here are some of the more popular mobile P2P apps:
- Symella (Symbian) - Search-for and download files from the Gnutella network
- PeerBox Mobile (Symbian) - Get hold of video, images and music via P2P
- MobileMule (Java) - Control eMule from your mobile phone
- Sniffi (Pocket PC) - Sniff out peer-to-peer networks using your PDA
- iMOKA (Java) - Transfer audio files with your Java handset
